LITERARY CRITICISM

Literary criticism... What is that exactly?? Many people view it in different ways, some think its a postive action and some think its a negative action. The small blurbs printed on the backs of books are good examples of literary criticism. They are written by other authors, they comment the work of literature that your about to read. I think they serve a good purpose in that instance because they give us - the reader- a little insight on the authenticity of the author the book. These blurbs provide the reader with the thoughts and views of the work your about to read. Sometimes this form of literary criticism boost the image of the author and make the book sell. Most of us are familar with movie reviews. At times these reviews seem to be a little bit too harsh. These reviews can make or break a movie. If the movie receives enough bad reviews it can determine the out come of the movie audience. All of us want to see a good movie and if we hear a movie isn't as great as it should be enough times, we decide not to see it. In cases such as this a bad review can cause movie to make very little money.

One of my favorite books is Twilight by Stephanie Meyers. Many of you may be familar with it since it became a huge motion picture. Overall I thought that it was an amazing book. It told one of the most romantic, thrilling, wanting love story I have ever heard. But it not a perfect book, it does contain some flaws. Meyers writes the story and most of the series in the first person view of the main character Bella. through out the book Bella expresses her thoughts just about everything. Sometimes she becomes a little overwhelming to the point where she's annoying. I find that this can cause a lost of interest at times. Also sometimes the plot of a particular chapter is dragged on for too long. On a lighter note Meyer uses great amount of description. While reading this book I could practically see the book come to life in my mind. I felt as if i was there watching all the events happen from the sidelines. Meyer creates a relationship among the characters that one can only yearn for. Readers may find themselves feeling loved, sad, jealous, annoyed because the emotions of these characters are so in depth and real.

New Journalism

Around the 60's through the 70's a unconventional way of non - ficitonal writing came about, New Journalism. It surprised people dramatically. When reading works of new journalism, sometimes you couldn't determine whether what you were reading was fictional or true. Authors like Truman Capote, for his work In Cold Blood; and Hunter S. Thomas, for his work Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. New journalism is said to be ffounded by Truman Capote when he published his famous work In Cold Blood, 1965.
“‘Deal me out, baby,’ Dick said. ‘I’m a normal.’ And Dick meant what he said. He thought of himself as balanced, as sane as anyone—maybe a bit smarter than the average fellow, that’s all. But Perry—there was, in Dick’s opinion, ‘something wrong’ with Little Perry.” (Capote 108)
This quote from In Cold Blood is a good example of what to expect when reading newjournalism. There is the use of dialogue to convey a point. This is what makes new journalism interesting, the use of fictional writing techniques like dialogue in a non-ficition narrative. Its revolutionary, especially during its early peroid.
Today new journalism can be found in sources like The New Yorker, or National Esquire.

Huxley Footnote

Aldous Huxley is the author of the famous composition The Doors of Perception. In this work Huxley describes the use and effects of Mescalin. Mescalin is found in a peyote which is a small "spineless catus." It was main used for tribal rites in Mexican tribes. http://www.streetdrugs.org/mescaline.htm. The mescalin in these peyotes cause hallucinations when consumed. Even though Huxley might have been seen as a stoner he famousily suggested that everyone should once in a while take a "chemical vacation." To this statement i agree, everyone once in a while just need to get away from all the stress and drama with life and so this so called "chemical vacation" may a great way.

ABSTRACT: Antioxidants are the Cure for UTI (uninary tract infection)

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is very common among young adults. UTI is frequently more common in young adult females. They can occur from virtually anything. Antioxidant over the year have proven to be a great detox. For this experiment antioxidants were put to the test. Medical researchers are trying to prove that antioxidants are the best way to cure UTI. In this study ten participants ranging from ages 16-21 with UTI were given some form of antioxidant (i.e. cranberries, pomegranates, blueberries, etc) for three day. Meanwhile 10 other participants were given other common UTI remedies. During these three days of the study the participants who were being treated with antioxidants began to feel better quicker. At the end of the study the medical researchers found out that the antioxidants treated patients with UTI better and more efficiently than any other remedy. Also treating UTI with antioxidants is cheaper than some form of antibiotic. To conclude this experiment, antioxidants are the best way to go when treating UTI.

Cubism

Cubism is a form of painting that came about in the early nineteen hundreds. Even though cubism has been practiced by famous artist like Picasso it has been widely neglected and misunderstood over the past many decades. When cubism emerged to the surface of the art world many people did not warm up to it and opinions were sour. It was an art form of random, it didn't make sense to them. Thus, having so many others not appreciate the art, it was pushed aside and neglected for some time now. The cubist art was not easily understood by those who stood witness. It is one of the most misunderstood forms of art in the 20th century. The main purpose of cubism is to capture the true meaning of the art in different points of view all at the same time.
